48 hour Vigil - held from Friday 8th Feb 6pm to Sunday 10th at 6pm.
For the people - by the people for our land, sea and air! Enough is enough! More actions less words!
The end of the 48 hours was as strong as the start of the vigil. The Defenders of Gibraltar committee were supported by the public through the whole event.
Although the committee were tired they were full of passion and energy that surpassed the aching of the ir bodies. The ending was amazing and superb - singing the two national anthems the old and well know llevame donde naci and our own Gibraltar Gibraltar the rock on whichh I stand - triumphantly sung and changed to we stand - and may we be forever free!
The climax was when we had finished and without expecting it or having arranged it HIs Excellency the Governor came out of his residence - The Convent and spoke to the Defenders of Gibraltar - committee and supporters!
Both the supporters and the committee had a chance to voice their concerns and have their voices heard! The Governor was as always a great listener and showed his love for the people of Gibraltar and empathised with them.
So what had we achieved? We had an opportunity where not only supporters and committee came together but there was a mixture of the people of Gibraltar who made their visits throughout the weekend. It was a new time a new beginning where almost one thousand people who visited left behind their party political alliance and united with one voice as is the true spirit of Gibraltarians!
We will post some more tomorrow of things learnt and achieved but will leave you with only the photos of His Excellency the Governor Sir Adrian Johns.
His Excellency also visited the group when they started the vigil and although we have photos of that we respect that they did not want those published.
To the group of women who were from the basque country - you tried to spoil our event but we stood our ground and now continue to rejoice in our stand up to the bullies who dare speak bad of us in our land! We speak English and Spanish and that does not make us Spanish!
SPECIAL THANKS HAS TO GO TO THE ROYAL GIBRALTAR POLICE WHO NOT ONLY LOOKED AFTER US THROUGHOUT THE 48 HOURS BUT WERE THERE WHEN WE NEEDED THEM!Anne-Marie Struggles
