As in Today's Chronicle. and
RGP chief is president of European Association of Airport and Seaport Police
The European Association of Airport and Seaport Police have held their 40th annual conference at the Caleta Hotel this week, hosted by the Royal Gibraltar Police.
The association’s general meeting has also taken place during the session in Gibraltar. On the agenda were elections to the Executive Committee of the association. A number of vacancies arose this year including that of president, a role fulfilled for the past five years by retired Assistant Chief Constable Mr John Donlon, former Coordinator of Ports Policing, in the United Kingdom. In what can only be described as a proud moment for the Royal Gibraltar Police and Gibraltar in general, Commissioner Eddie Yome was proposed and unanimously elected as president. The election means that Mr Yome will steer an association which works closely with the European Commission, providing advice on matters of aviation and seaport security.
Commenting on his election Mr Yome said: “I am extremely pleased with my election. Having been Vice-president Aviation I am well aware of the challenges ahead and the path that the association wants and needs to follow. I am confident that we can continue to grow and provide our expertise to the European policy makers.”
“This is a key role in an important European organisation which influences and advises the European Commission on security in maritime and aviation issues.”
“I am extremely proud personally, for the RGP and Gibraltar to be leading this important organisation.”
Mr Yome will work with two vice-presidents each of which will separately manage the aviation and maritime portfolios and report to him on those matters. Mr Yome has been Vice-President Aviation for the past five years. His term as president will run for three years.

Sometimes there is a bigger picture in what is going on around us in Gibraltar. Despite all the issue on the fishing saga (which we all know is more about our Sovereignty)we can now see the professionalism by our Royal Gibraltar Police.
Our Police despite having their hands tied because of diplomacy have still carried out professional work in as much as they have been able to!
Never before has Gibraltar played such a vital part in this important role - key role in an important European organisation which influences and advises the European Commission on security in maritime and aviation issues.”
So giving our Police praise when they deserve it especially as we are all frustrated at the Diplomacy they have had to carry on following until the Fishing Report and laws are changed!
Credit where credit is due guys! The police will only be as great as their Leader - well they all now have a hard one to follow! Mr Yome has achieved to put Gibraltar in a very high spot under the European Union! We are now on a positive platform that Spain has not been able to spoil.
If anything now we are able to raise the issue of Spain's bullying and oppression higher than ever before! Our voice will be heard and we will always use SPAIN as an example of what bad co operation is between countries like SPAIN.
Spain is an example of what not to do to other countries and how respect for our laws are for all!
On behalf of Defenders of Gibraltar we congratulate Mr Yome and salute you for your hard work and dedication!
But let it be known we will be expecting you do live up to the title of the role you have for 3 years!
You are now the President of European Association of Airport and Seaport Police so we expect you now more than ever to do your job and protect the integrity of our British territorial Waters and we expect you to secure the waters and work closer than ever with UK Government and the NAvy to be able to enforce the laws which you are now holding a great title and with it comes ACCOUNTABILITY!
Congratulations you make Gibraltar and the people very proud indeed!
