Defenders of Gibraltar supporting Women’s International Day

Why?

Women are like Gandhi said the companion of man, gifted with equal mental capacity!
This day is not to show any superiority over men! IT is also not about who should be working outside the home or who should be doing the housework. It is about WOMEN and how we contributed to life in our own way! For many years women had no rights and no voice and no choice! Due to many brave women we are where we are now. Freedom to vote, to work, to speak and to choose. Women have even become doctors, professors, travelled to Space and become strong defenders all over the world. Women have taken part in wars, become police or fire-fighters!

However we all know we still have a long way to go to be equal and free especially in many other countries in the world – where women are still suppressed or silenced – showing still that in the 21st century we still have no voice – no choice and no rights. Women are still killed or stoned to death!
Women are entitled to be educated and can do and mean more than just being a sex object or mother or even slave to a man. Women are clever and can achieve the same or more than any average man.


Many women continue to stand up for their rights! The right to choose – speak and live as they want to. Women are equal to man not over or lower Melinda Gates “A woman with a voice is by definition a strong woman. But the search to find that voice can be remarkably difficult.”

In Gibraltar we have had many brave women who have fought alongside men in our society – fighting for our rights!

So to all women who defended our rights we thank you and to all those out there it is never too late to stand up and fight for your rights! As DOG we fight and stand against bullying from Spain – in all ways they try – we are not against Spain but against the bullying tactics to suppress and oppress us! We say no to causing frontier queues of hours as the modern weapon to oppress it is an act against humanity!

I hope next year more women in Gibraltar join together to celebrate this important International Women' Day as we take for granted what we are today and forget what other woomen fought for so we could be where we are now!

It would be great that other WOMEN around the world could enjoy our freedom and status in their own cultures and countries.
