Saturday in Gibraltar is the ultimate day to catch up with people, talk about current events and of course have a good laugh in general. So it should be of no surprise to see the Defenders of Gibraltar once again at the Piazza canvassing for signatures to the petition, concerning the integrity of our territorial waters.
Today was a busy yet fruitful day, with over 500 signatures collected. It was great talking to people, especially those who were adamant in obtaining an update on progress to date; particularly concerning total signatures (revealed later on) as well as our frontier escapades (everyone today has told us not to even dare pixel-late photographs taken in response to the oppressive queues formed by Spains Partido (un) Popular Government)
The Minister for Health and the Environment, Dr Cortes, visited the Piazza and took the time to chat with the Defenders and of course pose for a few photographs which were taken by a journalist (I think from the Panorama, but that is a wild guess).
Special thanks go out to the Diabetic Association who did not mind sharing the area of the Piazza with us; in particular the gentleman that is Doctor Beguelin.
So without further ado - the following is the current tally of signatures to date:
Handwritten - 6054
Current online petition count - 908
Bringing a formal total so far of 6962 signatures
In addition to the above we also have:
- Completed petition sheets to collect from volunteers who have done certain areas in Gibraltar for us. (this number is around 400 in total)
- 3 more days at the Piazza (where we always aim to get in excess of 200)
- A few days penned in to collect signatures from the inhabitants of South District, who have been missing out on all the fun to date
We also aim to hand in the petition at the end of this month - so stay tuned.....
