Gibraltar Enters UEFA as 54th Member! On the 24th May 2013

Gibraltar Enters UEFA as 54th Member!

Yes we did it! Gibraltar got accepted into the UEFA family as the 54th member! What emotion what excitement  Gibraltar made history finally having one of our rights accepted and not denied again!

Somehow we got 51/53 votes accepting us into UEFA it was brilliant. What a triumph for our country for our hard working people! Many fought and never got to see this day but we have and now our children's children will enjoy the fruit of many people's hard work!

What a victory! There are not enough words that could describe the emotion - the accomplishment we all feel! It is like a dream and we will wake up but no it is true! The politics was left out of Sport and we have seen JUSTICE at long last for us the People of Gibraltar!

Thank you UEFA for welcoming us into the big family of UEFA!

For once politics did not take priority over our rights and justice was served!

Defenders of Gibraltar who support any group fighting for the rights of Gibraltar gets our full support.

Defenders of Gibraltar today gathered at the Airport terminal to show their support to the GFA delegation who returned triumphantly from the UEFA Congress in London. Around 100 people turned up to welcome them back. GFA Officials were grateful for the support shown and personally thanked DoG for our attendance.

So below are some photos

Tribute as given by an avid supporter

Today it's about Gibraltar PLC not about any specific individual. There are too many people to mention on one single thread in respect of what this really means for football in Gibraltar but there are some crucial names who deserve special credit. I would like to thank firstly Henry Coelho and the Maverick team, I think judging by the comments on the different groups people are not aware how crucial your role in achieving the ultimate goal you guys are top class and your professionalism has shone throughout. Secondly I would like to congratulate Andrew Perera for having the vision back in 1999 in actually submitting our initial application this initiative led to today's historical moment, thirdly Joey Núñez and his team for years you fought in adverse conditions until you called it a day, fourthly Gareth Latin and his team for taking over the baton and leading us to this momentous occasion, special mention to Dennis Beiso, whose role as UEFA Liason Officer was crucial in getting the support of all the members who have today voted in favour of our application, fifth comes the turn of successive Governments without whose support today would not have been a reality and lastly the man who for me has played the most important role by holding all the pieces of the jigsaw together and who has prevailed in the most adverse of conditions, Michael Llamas QC. Lets savour the occasion and rest assured that the hard work starts now let's make our nation a proud and respected member of the UEFA family.

Please note that we will be celebrating this more on Friday 31st May as our Government will now organise the best way to celebrate!
