FCO pressure heightens that now Sir James Dutton alters his reason for resigning as Governor!

FCO pressure heightens that now Sir James Dutton alters his reason for resigning as Governor!

So now it seems that since the FCO and the UK government could not silence the press release from the express - they have now moved to try and alter the true reason of Sir James Dutton's resignation.

Let us go back to what he said in his Speech - In his resignation speech, Sir James said the job was “more representational and ceremonial than I had expected”.

This means that he either made the wrong assumption on who leads Gibraltar or he thought that the FCO does not listen to his advice on the way forward.

However, today Sir James Dutton has made another press release stating he was resigning as our Governor for Personal and Professional reasons!

So, let us go back and analyse this change.

Is it the FCO pressure making him change his words? Or is it that he was led to believe that he was ultimately in charge of Gibraltar and the running of our Country?

It is starting to look like he must have still thought we were a Colony and that we were not self Governing!

To be honest,  if he thought he was going to be in charge, I am glad to say that our Chief Minister put him in his place! If he thought we were going to be treated like 2nd class citizens in our own land he got it very wrong indeed.

I don't blame him in thinking or coming to this conclusion, as it depends on how the FCO sold this position to him! Or how the UK Government convinced him? But the truth must be said to the FCO -  loud and clear - Long gone are the days when we the people of Gibraltar were illiterate and thus easier to keep in the dark!

Nowadays we have the marvellous discovery of Google - want to know what anything means, history and facts - just Google it!

So, why the sudden change in tune of our Governor's resignation? Is it that he is a puppet for the FCO after all? Was the fact that he could not control the passion and pride of being British Gibraltarian? Was it our constant demand for defending our Land and our people by UK against the bullying tactics from Spain just too much to handle? Was it the discovery that he was only representational and ceremonial and as such he was ruining his career by us highlighting his failure to defend us!

Definitely food for thought! We have never had a Governor resign in this way and we all know that there have been heated arguments behind closed doors with both Gib Govt and UK Govt and the FCO for sure!

This was on GBC news Tonight. http://www.gbc.gi/news/personal-and-professional-reasons-behind-resignation-says-governor-29709

"Personal and professional" reasons behind resignation, says Governor

The Governor has issued a statement saying his decision to leave his post is due to personal and professional reasons, and not related to Spain’s pressure on Gibraltar.
The post of Gibraltar Governor was advertised on the UK Government website ‘Civil Service Jobs by the Foreign Office this week. The post is advertised for four years, with a salary of between 85 thousand and 162 thousand pounds.
In a statement, Sir James Dutton says the decision to leave his post early was not made in haste. He says he made the decision in late 2014, and the timing of his departure was mutually agreed with the Chief Minister to allow the time necessary to find a successor, and cause the least amount of disruption.

**************

Now read the above and then read the express and make your judgement. I stand by mine....

We the people of Gibraltar will no longer be played like idiots and if there was friction with Sir James Dutton for wanting to stand up for us - you have no idea what friction is!

Governors come and go but we the people of Gibraltar will stay and not be silenced!

Alison MacMillan we will not put up with this continual denial of our RIGHTS to be protected!
